The day Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder accidentally got married
With the spectators as witnesses, the stars of Hollywood united their hearts on Valentine's Day.
Numerous couples stand out in pop culture history for their unforgettable relationship (or how good they looked together). Brangelina, Nicole and Tom, Britney and Justin are just some of the most attractive and consumed examples. But can you imagine the number of cases that did not come to light? Anything can happen in the middle of a long shoot, when the connection goes beyond fiction and your co-star becomes a great refuge. In this way, the actress of “Stranger Things” looked at who years later would become the image of “Matrix”, and that is why she still considers her marriage to be real.
Today, they enjoy bragging about their three decades of great friendship. However, it all started as a love affair: after seeing each other for the first time during the 1989 Independent Spirit Awards, both revealed that they suffered a "furious infatuation" (which the interpreter claims to still maintain). It was then that Ryder asked Francis Ford Coppola to cast her new interest in her next film, "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992). According to her, she looked forward to seeing Reeves every day on set. "I have these journals, and I just found one recently that was from the 'Dracula' era. The text read 'Heartache, heartbreak, heartbreak, heartbreak, thank God for Keanu. Thank God I'm going to see Keanu. I was always happy when I was around because there was some kind of trauma, ”she told Vanity Fair, referring to how difficult it was to film a gothic horror story.
Even though their paths parted in the future, it seems that it was destiny to stay (legally) together. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, they confessed that one of the scenes in the film made them husband and wife: “We got married. I swear to God, I think we're married in real life. In that sequence, Francis used a real Romanian priest. He did it all, I remember it was Valentine's Day,” Winona said. “Did we say yes?” asked the actor. "... Oh, we're married," he replied.
For his part, the filmmaker behind the show also considers his marriage to be officially real. “It's quite authentic, and very beautiful because we actually did the ceremony with the priest. In a sense, when we were done, we realized that Keanu and Winona really are married as a result of that scene," Coppola added.
Would you have liked them to fulfill the real pact that was left on the fictional altar? We cannot deny it, although for now we have to settle for their beautiful friendship. Now, the 47-year-old performer is dating Alexandra Grant, while his "wife" remains single after ending her relationship with Scott Mackinlay Hahn in 2011.
