Kevin Costner was born on January 18, 1955 in Lynwood, California. Son of a social worker and an electrician, he has an older brother named Dan. Sporty teenager and passionate about music, he nevertheless turned to marketing studies and joined, in 1973, the University of Fullerton in California. To pay his bills, the student finds a small job as a theater manager. Something clicked and he decided to take drama lessons in the evening. In 1978, after obtaining his degree in marketing, he began to work.
Returning from a business trip to Mexico, Kevin Costner has an unusual encounter on the plane, that of actor Richard Burton. The latter advises him to devote himself to his passion, comedy. From 1981, the aspiring actor will scour the castings. But the beginnings are difficult, and the small roles he lands are finally cut during the editing. In 1985, director Lawrence Kasdan gave him a role in the western Silverado. The film is a success and allows Kevin Costner to get noticed. Then, in 1987, his role in The Incorruptibles alongside Sean Connery and Andy Garcia revealed it to the general public.
In 1990, the consecration came with the film Dances with Wolves, directed, performed and produced by the actor through the production company he founded with his brother. In 2011, the actor returned to the front of the stage with the film The Company men. In the years that followed he returned to success; on the small screen with the mini-series Hatfields and McCoys (2012), at the cinema with the blockbuster Man of steel (2013) in which he plays the father of Superman. He has multiplied since filming, The Ryan Initiative, 3 Days to kill, Criminal: A Spy in the Head, The Shadow Figures and The Big Game. In March 2019, he shared the movie poster The Highwaymen with Woody Harrelson .
On the private side, Kevin Costner has been married to Christine Baumgartner since September 2004. The couple have three children; Cayden (2007), Hayes (2009) and Grace (2010). He is also the father of three children, Anne (1984), Lily (1986) and Joe (1988) from his union with his first wife Cindy Silva (1978–1994). He has a son, Liam, born in 1996, from his relationship with Bridget Rooney.
