The sepulchral silence of Meghan and Harry: not a public congratulations to Elizabeth II

There's been no signal from Los Angeles. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not publicly congratulated Elizabeth II, who just celebrated her 70th anniversary on the British throne this weekend. A deathly silence that is surprising to us: in fact, despite having renounced their official role as members of the British royal family and having publicly criticized the royal house on several occasions, the couple has always given special treatment to his majesty .

Until now they have kept her safe from her criticism, singing her praises and acknowledging the extreme importance of her role within the royal family. However, on this occasion they have preferred to remain silent, at least publicly. It is true that the two have deactivated their profiles on social networks for some time, but they still have the website of the Archewell foundation, through which they have already made official statements on occasion.

Given the importance of the historic event, it is likely that Harry had a private conversation with his grandmother. But it could also be that the prince (and here it is essential to use the conditional) did not sit too well with the proclamation of Camilla as the future queen consort: after years of uncertainty, it was Elizabeth II herself who announced that this will be the title of the Duchess of Cornwall once Charles is crowned king. A title that would have belonged to Diana, had things been given in a very different way.

After the stormy divorce and the tragic traffic accident in the Parisian tunnel that claimed her life, many British people asked that, out of respect for the memory of the late Lady Di, Camilla continue to be princess consort even once her husband accede to the throne. It must be recognized that in this last decade the Duchess of Cornwall has earned the trust and affection of many of her subjects who, until not so long ago, had many reservations with her. And she has achieved impeccable behavior and low profile through.

But how does Harry feel about his father's second wife? Last summer, the British tabloid MailOnline revealed that in the explosive new biography of the prince (scheduled for publication later this year) Camilla will be the character who will come out worst: “It is likely that the image of her will be very damaged. The relationship between Harry and her has never been good, "said a close source. Is it possible that the queen has moved before time?

The truth is that Harry and Meghan are expected to come to London accompanied by their children next June to celebrate the monarch's Platinum Jubilee. In which case, the possibility of a defection on his part (which by now sounds very unlikely) would aggravate the gap between the Sussexes and the royal house creating a distance that, at that point, could become insurmountable.
