Tom Cruise doesn't think there is a "typical Cruise role" and ends the gigantic ass discussion
Strangely, this weekend the latest movie with Tom Cruise, 'Barry Seal: The Trafficker' ('American Made'), already released in countries like Spain weeks ago, hits theaters in the United States. Taking advantage of the occasion, Screenrant has published an interview with the star and Doug Liman, director of the film.
The conversation is focused on the usual, explaining his interest in telling this story and selling it. Except for two moments that have caught my attention. The most curious thing occurs when the reporter remembers some statements by Liman, who said that he had tried to subvert the typical character of Tom Cruise. The actor seems uncomfortable, so determined to reject the label that he jumps to answer the question before the filmmaker explains:
-Cruise: Look, I don't know what a "typical Tom Cruise role" is. I do not know. I've never... I don't know what's typical...
-Liman: Well, you never have messy hair...
-Cruise: Les Grossman? [his character of him in 'Tropic Thunder']
Liman: Right.
-Cruise: 'Collateral', is that typical? Les Grossman, 'Collateral'?
-Liman: But in life...
-Cruise: 'Born on the Fourth of July'? [Serie]
-Liman: You know, you go about your life like... you're always perfectly dressed... [Cruise doesn't stop laughing] He's probably never broken a law. You know, it's all OK, but here's a character that flies in the face of it all. He probably never showed his ass to anyone. [Cruise laughs again]
There is a scene in 'Barry Seal' where Cruise "goes bald" and the actor confirms that there is no stunt, no CGI or stunt double. That's where the other peculiar question of the interview comes in, since the reference to Cruise's ass leads to talking about a shot of 'Valkyrie' that has gone viral:
hello, please, i present the theory that for one single shot in Valkyrie (2008), at 5:12, tom cruise wears a fake butt. observe: pic.twitter.com/Tw6yTbsQUe

Due to the enormous proportions of the buttocks, it was thought that it could be the butt of a risk specialist or perhaps Cruise was wearing some type of "fake ass", protection or prosthesis to avoid injuring himself when falling to the ground. Or maybe it was just a weird effect of the angle and the camera. The actor confirms that there was no double and maintains that he was not wearing anything special:
Cruise: What for? There was no prosthetic on Valkyrie, no.
-Screenrant: That settles the question.
Cruise: Good. [laughs] In Valkyrie... I have no idea.
