Nicole Kidman's reflection on her marriage to Tom Cruise
The actress spoke about the media harassment she experienced and recalled the day she met her husband.
Twenty years after splitting from Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman reflected on the years she was married to the father of her two oldest children. During an interview, the Australian actress spoke about the harassment of the press, the weight of having her eyes on them and the sincerity with which she exposed her intimacy.
"I was young. I think that's what I offered,” she told Harper Bazaar magazine when asked about the harassment she and Cruise faced in those years. “Perhaps I have become a bit more fearful, but I always try to be as open as possible. I just prefer to live in the world that way,” she added.
"Sometimes I am cautious and I have been hurt many times, but at the same time I prefer a warm approach instead of a cold one," she explained during the note. "My husband, Keith [Urban], says that when he met me he asked me, 'How's your heart? And I apparently replied: 'Open.
Cruise and Kidman were married for 11 years. The actors met on the set of Tony Scott's Days of Thunder and were married on December 24, 1990, with Dustin Hoffman as a witness, at a chapel in Telluride, Colorado, where the couple owned a cabin. "I remember she was so nervous... Tom came over in a Porsche, got out of the car, walked over and I was like... 'Wow!' My jaw dropped. Then I had to go to the audition in front of Tony Scott, ”Kidman recalled a while ago about the day she met her husband.
In the years they were together, they became the parents of Isabella, who is now 28, and Connor (26), two children they adopted in the United States. Despite seeming like the perfect family, in 2001 love came to an end and they decided to divorce. “It was a beautiful marriage. We had two beautiful children. The rest is history,” she said a few years ago.
From the moment they divorced, both Cruise and Kidman have respected their children's privacy, speaking little to nothing about them to the media. "I'm very private about all of that," she told the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 2018. "I have to protect those relationships, but 150 percent that I would give my life for my children, because that's my purpose," she added. back then.
“I fell madly, passionately in love. I would have gone to the ends of the earth for him”, he explained during an interview with DuJour Magazine, in 2012. There he also remarked that, due to media pressure in general, and the harassment of the paparazzi in particular, they were “in a bubble”: “Just the two of us. We became very dependent on each other.” The breakup, as she herself confessed, “was a shock. It took me a long time to recover,” she recounted.
Today Kidman is happily married to Urban and enjoying growing up their two youngest daughters: Faith Margaret, 10, and Sunday Rose, 13. “We're always figuring things out, but our relationship is very much about love, so there's a huge amount of concessions”, she assured about her husband during the chat with Harper Bazaar. "I want him to have the best life he can have and he responds the same way." she revealed her. "We love being parents together," she concluded on her present.
