In his tribute to the couple, Andrew said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been recognized by the magazine for their charitable work, particularly through their Archewell Foundation.
“They give voice to the voiceless through media production. Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need, offering mental health support to Black women and girls in the United States and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean,” he said. .
Those who make Time's list of the 100 most influential people in the world are divided into six categories: icons, pioneers, titans, artists, leaders and innovators.
Harry and Meghan have been named icons. Also on the list are singer Billie Eilish, actress Kate Winslet, athlete Simon Biles and poet Cathy Park Hong.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iiweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation, has been selected by Harry and Meghan to be on the list.
In a post on the Archewell Foundation website, the couple described her as a leader and "pioneer".
"Okonjo-Iweala has shown us that the path to ending this pandemic is lit by working together to equip all nations with equitable access to vaccines," she said.
The Duke and Duchess also acknowledged their own cover, writing that they are "honored" to be featured on the list.
