Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams admits she thought Arya's carzy scene 'was a prank' when she first read the script for season eight

Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams initially thought her  carzy scene in Sunday night's episode 'was a prank' when she first read the script.

The actress, 22, shocked fans when her character Arya got int**ate with her lifelong friend Gendry (Joe Dempsie) in an unexpected twist in the latest installment of the HBO show.

Maisie has now admitted she thought the episode's script contained a bogus scene when the int**ate act was pointed out by her co-star and close friend Sophie Turner.

She told Entertainment Weekly: 'At first, I thought it was a prank. I was like "Yo, good one", and [the showrunners] were like "No, we haven't done that this year." Oh f***!'

The Doctor Who star explained showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have played similar jokes on the cast in the past - and she was shocked to learn this wasn't the case.

She said: 'I got to the read-through and I'm reading the scene and thought, "Oh, we're actually going to do this. When do I shoot this? I need to go to the gym". A whole list of things.'

The actress said David and Dan let her decide exactly how much she wanted to show, and she opted to keep herself 'pretty private'.

Maisie added: 'I kept myself pretty private. I don’t think it's important for Arya to flash. This beat isn't really about that. And everybody else has already done it on the show, so…'

Arya and Gendry - who is the unacknowledged son of the late Robert Baratheon - acted upon their flirtations as Winterfell prepared to battle with the Night King in Sunday night's episode.

After asking her friend about his past lovers, Arya revealed she was a virgin, and told the skilled blacksmith: 'We're going to die soon. I'd like to know what it's like before that happens'.

The pair were later seen in bed together as the camera panned over the characters in their last peaceful moments before the White Walkers arrived at Winterfell.

The coupling harks back to a moment in the pilot of Game Of Thrones - when the then-king Robert Baratheon told Arya's father Nedd Stark: 'I have a son, you have a daughter. We will join our houses'.

At the time, the pair were speaking about Arya's elder sister Sansa (Sophie Turner) and the heir Joffrey, but it seems the scene may have instead foreshadowed another relationship.

The episode continued the show's stream of emotional reunions as Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) arrived at Winterfell and was reunited with Sansa.

Tensions were also rising between the Starks and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) as the would-be Queen of the Seven Kingdoms discovered her lover, Jon Snow (Kit Harington), is her nephew - and the last living male Targaryen heir.
