Amber Heard source responds to Kate Moss testifying that Johnny Depp didn't push her down stairs

A source close to the actress has reacted to the supermodel's testimony, in which she said Depp "never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down any stairs."

After supermodel Kate Moss testified on behalf of her former boyfriend Johnny Depp amid his ongoing legal battle against his ex-wife Amber Heard, a source close to the Aquaman actress has responded to EW about her remarks in court.

"So Johnny Depp didn't abuse Kate Moss. That makes him 1 for 2 in the abuse column," the source says. "But, to date, he's 0 for 1 in the courtroom on the central issue in this case back when he lost the same exact case in England. And when the jury deliberates over the singular issue in this case — whether Amber Heard can exercise her right of freedom of speech — he'll be 0 for 2, no matter how much his lawyers try to distract and divert the jury's attention."

In prior testimony outlining his allegedly violent behavior toward her, Heard insinuated that Depp once pushed Moss down a flight of stairs. Moss refuted that claim Wednesday morning as she joined the Fairfax County, Va., legal proceedings via video conference from Gloucestershire, England.

Depp's attorney, Ben Chew, first asked Moss to confirm that she was in a relationship with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor between 1994 and 1998, before Chew inquired about a vacation the couple took to a resort in Jamaica while they were still together. Moss was injured during the trip, but she told Chew that it was not because of Depp's actions.

"We were leaving the room, and Johnny left the room before I did," she said. "There had been a rainstorm. As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back and I screamed because I didn't know what happened to me and I was in pain. He came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention."

Responding to Chew's follow-up questions, Moss said Depp did not push her down the stairs in Jamaica nor at any other time over the course of their relationship.

"No, he never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down any stairs," Moss said, letting out a small laugh as she finished the statement.

Previously during the trial, Heard recounted an alleged altercation at their home in 2015, which she said involved Heard's younger sister, Whitney, getting between the couple as she tried to defuse the argument. Depp allegedly swung at Whitney, who was standing with her back against a staircase. "I don't hesitate," Heard said. "I just instantly think of Kate Moss and the stairs, and I swung at him. In all my relationships to date, I hadn't [delivered] a blow. For the first time, I hit him square in the face."

During Depp's 2020 U.K. libel suit against The Sun publication, Heard testified that she heard a rumor about Depp shoving Moss down the stairs, which she said at the time was "fresh" in her mind.

The ongoing legal battle stems from Depp suing Heard for $50 million over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed detailing domestic violence. While Heard did not mention Depp by name in the piece, his team maintained that the references to the actor are apparent, and that he suffered damage to his career and reputation as a result. Heard then filed a $100 million countersuit for defamation.

In a pre-recorded deposition from November 2019, actress Ellen Barkin, who said she had a sexual relationship with Depp in 1994, also testified about "controlling" and "jealous" behavior from Depp as part of the current case.
