6 dangerous stunts performed by Tom Cruise
The movie star, who celebrates his 58th birthday on July 3, is known for pulling off his own stunts in movies without using a stunt man.
Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, Risky Business, and Jerry Maguire are some of the most beloved, well-known, and prominent roles that international film premiere Tom Cruise has played during his career.
Cruise has a very varied catalog of projects, but without a doubt the predominant genre of his films has been action.
Jumping over imposing buildings, jumping long distances and driving the fastest cars and motorcycles in the world are part of Cruise's CV. A curriculum that is also impregnated with difficult and painful scenes that have almost cost him his life.
The “last samurai” has such a strict work ethic that he does parts of the script himself that aren't entirely safe for someone of his caliber. In the industry, stuntmen take command of scenes that require stunts that could risk the lives of the protagonists. The stuntmen are well trained and spend years learning safety measures as well as dangerous moves.
Cruise is known to like to do his own stunts. As much as the actor has been asked to be more cautious, he believes that it is not necessary. But images and video show otherwise. For example: When the actor was filming Mission: Impossible 6 and he had to jump from building to building. Let's just say at that point his ribs and ankle would have wanted a double after all.
It should be noted that the scene seen in the video is the one that remained in the final cut of the film, and when it happened, Cruise had to take time off during recording to heal.
In honor of the actor's birthday, here are 5 more insane stunts he has pulled off in the name of his profession and for our entertainment:
1. In the opening sequence of Mission Impossible from 1996, Tom Cruise has to flee from an exploding fish tank in a restaurant. The tank was the actor's idea, but the film's director was concerned that he might drown or injure himself. Nothing serious happened and Cruise managed to pull off the scene perfectly.
2. In Explosive Encounter, Cruise and Cameron Diaz were escaping from enemies when, at the actor's idea, he turns Diaz to start shooting at them.
Tom, not a stuntman, was the one who turned Cameron, not a stuntman, being on top of the bike and the actress allowed it from the beginning.
3. For The Mummy, Cruise shot 64 shots of the plane crash scene in zero gravity. The sequence took two days to shoot and required four flights at altitude.
The writer of the film said that there was a lot of vomiting, but not by the protagonist. Cruise insisted on shooting the film in zero gravity because it was important for the audience to experience the scene as closely as possible.
4. Another plane.
For Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, he himself was hanging from a moving plane in mid-flight. He replayed the scene eight times, worried that the harness might not protect at all.
For this same film, he learned to hold his breath for six minutes in an underwater scene.
5. In Edge of Tomorrow, Emily Blunt almost killed Cruise during the driving scene.
Blunt hit the brakes very late and then they hit a tree.
Tom Cruise is definitely dedicated to his profession and no one can say otherwise.
