Charlize Theron's dramatic account of the day her mom killed her dad

The actress hid the truth for several years. Her father was an alcoholic and threatened her and her mother. This Monday, she spoke about it again.

"My father was so drunk that he did not understand how he was able to walk and he entered the house with a gun," said the actress. "My mother (Gerda) and I were in a room, leaning against the door that he was trying to push open. That's how we were when he had to take a step back and fired three shots through the door. None of the bullets hit us, which is a miracle," he explained.

Gerda knew that she had to do something to protect Charlize and she did not doubt her: she reached for a revolver and shot her husband, who collapsed and died on the spot. "She ended the threat, she was in self-defense," said the interpreter of Fast and Furious.

The actress described her father as a very sick man. "She only knew him in one way: alcoholic," she said during the chat, adding that she is not ashamed to talk about it.

"It was a desperate situation and our family was caught up in it. But she acknowledges that that moment impacted her forever. "This kind of violence that happens within the family is something that I share with a lot of people."
