Emilia Clarke suffers an aneurysm during the filming of Game of Thrones

It was in the year 2019 when Emilia Clarke decided to tell about the health problems she faced during the famous HBO series.

As she revealed to The New Yorker, she was not in her best condition during the recordings of the first seasons of production. She revealed that she had suffered two aneurysms while she was filming.

The first incident happened in 2011, when Emilia Clarke was 24 years old and had just shot season 1 of the series. She was in the gym:

“I felt as if a rubber band had hit my head, a pain that escalated uncontrollably. Incredible pressure and suddenly I realized that I could not walk or stand, at that moment I knew that I had brain damage, ”she commented.

The actress received immediate medical attention and was diagnosed with an aneurysm caused by bleeding around the brain. After emergency surgery she woke up in excruciating pain and with a tube in her throat. She had been left with a sequel called aphasia, which is an expressive and comprehensive language disorder, which altered her ability to communicate, so she was not even able to say her name. Fortunately, as the days went by, the aphasia disappeared, but she was found to have a second aneurysm.

After six weeks of recovery, the actress returned to work on the second season of Game of Thrones, but she felt insecure and weak, as well as a constant fear of dying at any moment.

A second aneurysm put Emilia Clarke's life at risk again

In 2013, after the filming of the third season of Game of Thrones, during a routine visit for a medical check-up, it was discovered that her second aneurysm had already increased in size, for which it was necessary to intervene surgically.

Emilia Clarke was hospitalized and this time she had a more near-death experience. When she woke up from the operation, she was screaming in pain as the procedure had failed. She had panic attacks, anxiety, and depression; her chances of surviving from her were slim so she had to be intervened again.

She spent a month in the hospital, undergoing a painful recovery, but upon her return to the set, she was filled with energy and self-esteem, thanks to the personality and power she acquired from her character.

Emilia Clarke's anxiety attacks

The workload and the hard days of filming affected Emilia's mental health, to the point of making her suffer from anxiety attacks, which can happen at any time.

During a participation in the Table Manners podcast, Ella Clarke reported that she once happened to her at an airport:

“I was walking in the airport when all of a sudden I started to feel bad. I was having an anxiety attack due to my general exhaustion. I was alone, on the phone with my mother and I told her crying: 'I can't breathe, I don't feel well,'” she said.

Despite her health condition, a fan approached the 34-year-old actress to ask for a selfie:

“At the time, she was crying her eyes out and a guy came up to me asking if we could take a selfie. I kept telling her that I was sorry, but that she couldn't breathe. It has been for moments like that, where I don't know how to react, ”she narrated.

That is why the actress who gave life to Daenerys Targaryen made the decision not to take more photos with her followers.

Today the 34-year-old actress has recovered part of her health and has continued to work in multiple film and TV productions, the most recent is that Emilia Clarke will be part of the Marvel Universe with a participation, still secret, in the series Secret Invasion.
