Finally Princess Diana's Secret Lover Speaks Out

Princess Diana's secret lover, former military officer James Hewitt, 58, denied the nearly 30-year-old rumors on Channel Seven's Sunday Night television show.

"Are you Harry's father?" asked the host Melissa Doyle asking the status of Princess Diana's child.

"No," said Hewitt.

The man, who had been in the Queen's protective regiment, first met Diana in 1986, while teaching Diana to ride.

She was an exclusive guest on the Sunday Night television show which featured Melissa Doyle traveling to England to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death.

With Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell; Diana's best friend, Rosa Monckton; and Ken Wharfe's caretaker Hewitt was interviewed at his farm in Devon, England, where he has spoken candidly about his relationship with the Princess.

After their first meeting, Hewitt and Diana continued a romantic relationship for five years in the late 1980s, a time when Prince Charles was rumored to be having an affair with Camila Parker Bowles (now his wife).

Hewitt recalled the time he fell in love with the princess: "It happened slowly and then, you know, suddenly you felt like you always wanted to see each other," he said.

Talking about their secret meeting, he said "not serious, running away, traveling, laughing and cooking. I cook and he does the dishes!"

The two separated when Hewitt was assigned to the Gulf War, although media speculation continued to follow them.

On the question of whether Hewitt was Harry's biological father, Doyle asked: "Why does that question keep getting repeated?"

"It hit the newspapers... Maybe what happened to him was worse. Poor him," Hewitt said of Prince Harry.

In the affair, there was Ken Wharfe who slept on a rollaway bed in the corridor while the two met secretly.

"I don't have a problem with that, I mean . . . you know, it's obvious what happened, and I'm not the right person to talk morals about this anyway," Wharfe told Doyle.

"It was his life, their life. I was there for a specific reason. I won't let him down."

Hewitt, who was offered more than $16 million for letters from Diana and two from Prince William, is now living a quiet life in Devon.

When asked about his meeting with Diana, he said he did not regret it.

"No, I don't regret it. I'm sorry for some of the things it's caused, but not at all sorry. I won't," he said.
