Jennifer Gray says ex Johnny Depp was 'jealous' in new memoir
Jennifer Gray has dropped another bombshell about her fiery relationship with her ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp in her new memoir. “Out of the corner”, she leaves her on Tuesday.
The enduring legend of “Dirty Dancing” is revealing how things took a dark turn after his agent set her up on a blind date with the handsome “Cry-Baby” actor in 1989, when he was 26 and she 29.
The couple got engaged just two weeks after meeting that year, she said.
Of her first date, Gray, 62, wrote: "We ate, we talked, we drank Jack Daniel's, we cracked up, we took cigarette breaks midway. It was so ridiculously beautiful. And surprisingly open and funny and quirky and sweet."
The lovebirds even got a Pekingese poodle puppy named Lulu. “She was our practice baby and someone to keep me company when Johnny was out of town,” Gray wrote, according to a statement. excerpt obtained by The Independent.
Depp, 58, is embroiled in a high-profile defamation lawsuit against ex-wife of 36 years, Amber Heard, but Gray says this isn't his first brush with relationship drama.
The “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” scene-stealer described how Depp's behavior became erratic during their time together: “Johnny came and went every week from Vancouver, but he had started getting into trouble more and more regularly: bar fights, skirmishes with cops.”
"He started missing his flights back to Los Angeles because he either overslept or, when he got home, he was mad with jealousy and paranoid about what he had been doing while he was gone," the mother-of-one continued. . “I attributed his bad temper and unhappiness to him being miserable and powerless to leave [the TV series] '21 Jump Street.' ”
Representatives for Depp have not responded to requests for comment.
Meanwhile, Gray previously revealed ahead of the book's release revealing to him that "there was some heat" in his relationship with Depp.
"It was a fucking bonfire," Gray said. "It was literally like, 'Are you kidding me? Are you kidding? I have never seen such a guy. ”
She continued, "And energetically, what it was to be with him, it was like, 'Oh, I'm being totally, totally compensated for the shit I just went through.'"
The eventual “Edward Scissorhands” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” icon began dating Gray shortly after she broke up with Matthew Broderick.
She began dating Broderick, 60, in 1985 while filming "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." The couple were semi-secretly dating at the time, until they were involved in a car accident in Northern Ireland two years later. During the tragic accident, two people died and the actors were injured.
Gray reflected on the accident and how the moment influenced the course of her life. "There were some very, very heavy things that changed my life forever and there was no one to blame," she said. “It was an accident pure and simple that was tragic. And it had very serious traumatic lasting effects, I'm sure, on Matthew and the other women's family and myself."
