Jennifer Lawrence clarifies why she temporarily stopped acting
The last time we saw the actress in a movie was in 2019, with X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Although in December we see Jennifer Lawrence star in a movie (more specifically, the promising Don't look up), three years have passed since the last time the interpreter acted in a feature film: it was in 2019, with X-Men: Dark Phoenix , and since then, has been pretty much missing. No one knew the reason why she temporarily withdrew, but now, in full promotion of her new project, Jennifer Lawrence herself clears up our doubts.
Jennifer Lawrence stopped to improve
The actress has spoken clearly in an interview with Vanity Fair about this abrupt departure from the film industry that has lasted almost 3 years:
- "I wasn't giving the quality that I should have. I think everyone had gotten tired of me, and even I got tired of myself."
-
- "It had gotten to a point where I couldn't do anything right. If I walked down a red carpet, everyone was like, 'Why didn't you run?'"
-
- "I think for much of my life I've been trying to please people. Working made me feel like no one could be mad at me: 'Okay, I said yes, we'll do it. No one gets mad.' I was just happy for my existence."
-
- "So I thought maybe leaving your job or your career can bring peace to your soul."
What is clear is that Jennifer Lawrence has decided to return to the big screen, although perhaps prioritizing quality projects and not others (ahem, X-Men: Dark Phoenix) in which her image could be damaged. On December 24th we will see her star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the promising Don't look up, and it will be then that we find out if she has recovered her magic, or if she has lost it forever.
