Kaya Scodelario reveals that the director asked her to strip everything to win a role in the film
Kaya Scodelario has recounted how a director she was auditioning for promised the job to whoever agreed to strip first, even though the film contained no n-dity.
The Skins star opened up about his experiences in the industry in a series of Twitter posts in which he expressed his fear that young actors have been conditioned to think it's normal to be measured by how good their bodies are.
Scodelario said she was once invited to an audition where all she had to do was strip n-ked, and for another role where she was between her and another woman, a director said the part would go to whoever agreed to strip first.
She tweeted: “I auditioned for a job a few years ago. She was like, 'She just needs to get in. Take off your clothes and that's it. She was terrified.
“Fortunately, I have an agent who was quick to say there was no way that was going to happen. This was a great movie. A great director. A great opportunity'."
Scodelario, 29, continued: “Different casting, between another actress and me. They both worked so hard to impress this notoriously difficult director, he auditioned multiple times.
"He emailed our agents 'whoever agrees to strip first gets the job.'
"The movie had no n-dity. I just wanted to see who said yes."
The star said, "MANY young actors don't have the safe net of a caring agent to protect them."
“They will assume that it is normal for an actress to be worth measuring by the body she has,” she said.
“Because of the amount of skin they are willing to show.
“We have been conditioned to believe this.”
Scodelario said she would likely feel "scared" for tweeting about her experiences.
"Do you know what f***** is?" she asked.
“I'm going to wake up in the morning with anxiety about tweeting. Although I have not given names. I'm still going to be scared.
“Women who come forward are very brave. I am in awe of all of you.
"Thank you thank you thank you."
Scodelario rose to fame playing Effy in Skins and played Teresa in the Maze Runner film series.
She also appeared in 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
