'I'm hungry': Naomi Watts admits she usually 'starves' herself before award ceremonies as she shows off very slender figure in skimpy cut-out gown at Oscars
It's no secret that Hollywood stars diet ahead of the Oscars to fit into their stunning gowns.
But Naomi Watts somewhat shocked on the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles, when she suggested that she's 'hungry' on big award show days as a result of usually 'starving' oneself.
She made the comments while being interviewed by Ryan Seacrest, who asked her about a frittata she had made earlier in the day, which featured in a snap taken by her brother Ben Watts and posted on Instagram.
In the picture, the makeup free star is seen proudly holding up the savory meal.
Speaking to the American Idol host on the red carpet, the actress admitted that she had been hungry earlier in the day, and suggested that she had been dieting in preparation for the red carpet.
'I’m hungry on days like today because you usually have starved yourself,' she said, before trailing off.
Naomi has been winning praise for her stylish - if a little tame - sartorial choices on the red carpet this awards season.
But she certainly wasn't playing it safe for the Oscars on Sunday.
The actress walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood wearing a daring cut-out gown by Armani that revealed plenty of skin and displayed her toned figure.
Naomi, who presented a category at the awards ceremony alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, chose a monochrome colour palette with the unusual print dress, which featured spaghetti straps and low sides.
The skimpy design displayed the star's shoulders and waist, with a black bandeau beneath that covered her chest and protected her modesty.
Naomi accessorised with a boxy black clutch and simple jewels. Her hair was styled in a undone wavy 'lob', while her make-up was vampy with a slick of dark lipstick and dramatic lashes.
Fans were given a sneak peek at her hair and make-up earlier in the day, when the Birdman star's brother Ben shared behind-the-scenes pictures of her getting ready.
In the Instagram picture, Ben joked that the delicious-looking meal would be accompanying his sister to the awards ceremony, writing: 'Oscars count down #Naomiwatts #fritatta game is tight .... Look out for it on the #redcarpet today #shhhhh' [sic].
The two-time nominee (for The Impossible in 2012 and 21 Grams in 2003) wore a casual grey jumper and has her blonder hair scraped back in a bun.
While Watts isn't herself a nominee this year, she will be in attendance to present an award. The Diana star was pictured in rehearsals for the ceremony on Saturday alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, who she will present with.
Naomi will also be there to support her film Birdman, which is up for nine gongs, including Best Picture.
Her co-stars in the film have been nominated for acting accolades. Michael Keaton is up for Best Actor, while Edward Norton and Emma Stone are up for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively.
Naomi has been lending her support to the film over awards season, attending the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
At the latter, she was also recognised for her work in another critically-acclaimed film this year, comedy St Vincent. Naomi was nominated for Oustanding Supporting Actress for her role as Daka.
At the Globes, Naomi won plenty of praise for her canary yellow strapless gown by Gucci, which she accessorised with a stunning jewelled Bvlgari Serpent snake necklace and bright red lips.
At the SAG Awards, Watts radiated in a dark off the shoulder gown by Balenciaga.
