Natalie Portman's physical transformation for Thor: Love and Thunder
The actress underwent a grueling exercise regimen that included four months of weight training and a diet of protein shakes.
Natalie Portman is one of those actresses who put the body to the characters and "Thor: Love and Thunder" was no exception.
To bring Jane Foster to life, the Oscar-winning actress underwent a grueling exercise regimen to give her arms the definition seen in the trailer for Taika Waititi's film when she holds Mjölnir. In addition, she maintained a diet based on protein shakes to gain weight and strengthen her muscle mass.
“It was really fun. I worked with a trainer, Naomi Pendergast, for, I think, four months before shooting and then obviously throughout the shoot. We did a lot of weight training and a lot of protein shakes, weight training that I've never done before. Of course, I have never made it my goal to be bulky. It was very physical, so it was a lot of work on both agility and strength,” she said.
This isn't the first time Natalie Portman has undergone a complete makeover for a role. The actress had to undergo a regimen similar to this for "The Black Swan", a role that gave her her first Oscar.
"It definitely helps you get into character and changes the way you move. You walk differently, you feel differently. I mean, it's wild to feel strong for the first time in my life," she added of her work for "Thor: Love." and Thunder”.
The fourth film in the hammer superhero saga will hit theaters on July 8.
