Sandra Bullock on Taking a Break from Acting: “I’m So Burnt Out”

"I'm so tired," she says. "I'm so not capable of making healthy, smart decisions and I know it."

In a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Sandra Bullock has given us cult classics like Miss Congeniality, timeless rom-coms like The Proposal, and award-winning films like The Blind Side. And now, the actress says it's time she takes a break.

During a talk with The Hollywood Reporter, Bullock said she's looking forward to having a less busy schedule soon and spending time with her family.

"I don't want to be beholden to anyone's schedule other than my own," she said. "I'm so burnt out. I'm so tired, and I'm so not capable of making healthy, smart decisions and I know it."

The actress said in a previous interview, in March, that she takes her job "very seriously" when she has an upcoming film, but right now, she explained, "I just want to be 24/7 with my babies and my family. That's where I'm gonna be for a while."

After starring in about 50 movies throughout the years, Bullock said she is exhausted and feels that "I'm so not capable of making healthy, smart decisions and I know it."

Bullock—who has been with photographer Bryan Randall since 2015—is mom to 12-year-old son Louis and 10-year-old daughter Laila.

She said that while much of her reason for stepping back from acting is to enjoy her loved ones more, it's also a personal challenge.

"Work has always been steady for me, and I've been so lucky. I realized it possibly was becoming my crutch," she said. "It was like opening up a fridge all the time and looking for something that was never in the fridge."

Bullock said she realized that she was continuously unsatisfied with her success and overworking to seek self-assurance.

"I said to myself, 'Stop looking for it here because it doesn't exist here. You already have it; establish it, find it and be OK not having work to validate you,'" she said.

This year, Bullock's adventure comedy The Lost City premiered. Of working on the movie with producer Liza Chasin, the actress said, "If I'm going out with a bang, I want to go out with the right person."
