Damon Lindelof  apologises for "gratuitous" shot of Alice Eve in her underwear.

Star Trek Into Darkness writer and producer Damon Lindelof has apologised for a scene in the blockbuster in which Alice Eve strips to her underwear.

The moment in question sees Eve's character Carol Marcus change clothes in the presence of Captain Kirk (Chris Pine). The shot, which also appeared in a trailer for the film, has been questioned due to its superfluous nature.

Lindelof weighed into the debate on his Twitter feed, saying: "I copped to the fact that we should have done a better job of not being gratuitous in our representation of a barely clothed actress.

"We also had Kirk shirtless in underpants in both movies, [but I] do not want to make light of something that some construe as misogynistic. What I'm saying is I hear you, I take responsibility and will be more mindful in the future."

Lindelof, a frequent JJ Abrams collaborator, recently said that there was "a very good answer" as to why Eve stripped off but didn't reveal it.
