The mysterious and cruel secret of Meghan Markle: the abrupt end with her first husband
How was the unknown and ruthless divorce of her with Trevor Engelson
The door bell rang. He observed from the security camera that he was an employee of the post office. In his hands he carried a small package. He thought of an order for something he had ordered a few hours ago. He received it and signed the form certifying that it had already been delivered. When he opened it, he was surprised: inside it was the engagement ring that two years before he had given to his beloved girlfriend and with which they had sworn eternal love.
It was perhaps one of the best kept secrets of actress Meghan Markle, the woman who will soon become Harry's wife and the princess of the United Kingdom. Few, very few, knew in depth the reason that led her to end her two-year marriage to her first husband, Hollywood producer Trevor Engelson.
Only one person could investigate in depth the causes and he succeeded. That person is none other than the person who best knows the ins and outs of the British royal family. More specifically, the secrets of Lady Di, who would have been Markle's mother-in-law.
Andrew Morton, the biographer of Diana Spencer, investigated the years of Markle's life so that the British people would know who she would have as her guest at Buckingham Palace. The book, which appeared recently and whose essential chapter was published by The Times newspaper in its Sunday edition, is entitled: "Meghan, a Hollywood Princess".
In her lines, Morton uncovers the true causes of her abrupt and mysterious divorce from her first husband in 2013, after two years of marriage.
She, based in Toronto, and he, in Los Angeles, could not keep love alive at a distance. The occupations and obligations of one and the other forced them to try to make their partner survive despite the little contact they had. And, unsurprisingly, that fragile bond did not last.
But for the few relatives who know in detail how the end was, the future princess was the one who acted in a "cruel" manner, according to the biographer who most bothers the English royal family. Apparently, Meghan was forceful in ending love. Instead of traveling to Los Angeles and clarifying as adults that her relationship could not continue, the actress and protagonist of the successful series Suits decided to send him by mail… the alliance that had sealed her love two years before.
Engelson was devastated by Markle's decision. He did not understand what had happened, since he thought that despite the distance, things were going and that they would finally meet again. He was the one who elevated her to the category of great series actress and who promoted her to star in Suits.
But it wasn't the only humiliation Morton describes. When they were still fighting - or so it seemed - to keep her love alive and she moved to Canada, a simple "domestic" gesture also fell like a bomb on Engelson's dignity. Meghan decided to take a multiprocessor to cook. It was a gesture that shocked the producer and made him suspect the worst.
"She took her favorite kitchen utensil from her West Hollywood home and took it with her to Toronto, where she settled. She carried it in the backseat of her car. She then placed it in her Toronto kitchen. An object that reminded her that he was no longer at his house in Los Angeles," wrote the author of the controversial and revealing book.
Soon after promoting her for Suits, Engelson began to suspect that Markle's new life was too good to give up for him. Although he would never suspect that the end would be with a courier knocking on her door and handing him her valuable engagement rings.
Meghan made Engelson feel, according to friends of hers interviewed by Morton, that he was "a rock in her shoe" during her final months. Meghan was already financially independent and famous. She no longer needed the producer, according to the ruthless biography of the English author.
But there is also something else that Meghan would hide, according to the writer. Citing old school friends of the future princess, the actress always wanted to become "Diana 2.0". And for this she prepared her whole life, according to her biography.
