The Story Behind Jason Momoa’s Scar
If you have been following Jason Momoa for a while now, you’re probably wondering where that eyebrow scar came from. He didn’t have it when he was doing television shows in his younger years, shows like Baywatch Hawaii and North Shore. By the time he was starring in shows like Frontier and Game of Thrones, his left eyebrow had a very distinct slash through it. Fans coming on board the Momoa train later in his career might have assumed he’s always had that slashed eyebrow, but that’s not the case. Something very specific happened to him and he’s looked that way ever since. Read on to find out what the story is.
LA resident Dominic Bando got into an argument with the Aquaman star at the Bird Cafe in 2008. But instead of keeping it verbal, Dominic decided to smash a pint glass over Jason’s face and the actor was taken to hospital, where he needed about 140 stitches. His attacker also suffered some injuries but was eventually sentenced to five years behind bars.
An interview with The New York Post in 2011 gives us more information about Jason Momoa’s scar:
“I got called ‘pretty boy’ my whole life,” sighs Jason Momoa. A typical complaint from a man so gorgeous that women melt like hot fudge topping when he walks in the room.
Then, 2 1/2 years ago, he was in a bar and got hit in the eye with a pint glass, which shattered. Some 140 stitches later, his pretty-boy face was no longer flawless. “If anything, it’s like, ‘Good,’ ” says the “Conan the Barbarian” star. “It’s not my thing now.”
We hate to break it to him, but scars are hot. The fine line splitting Momoa’s left eyebrow in two is an added bonus to, not a detraction from, his half-Hawaiian good looks.
In a 2011 interview with Access Hollywood, the Aquaman actor revealed he got the scar from a man he believed was taking part in a gang initiation. “It was crazy. A guy smashed a pint glass in my face. I got a little over 140 stitches in my face,” he said of the bar fight. “[Hair] just doesn’t grow there anymore.” He also joked that he married wife Lisa Bonet before it happened, so she had to embrace it. “I got my wife beforehand, so . . . if she doesn’t like it, too bad. She likes it.”
The general consensus seems to be that Jason Momoa’s scar is sexy as hell, despite the actor hoping it would soften the pretty boy image he’s had for most of his life. And that’s not a bad thing, at least not for us. Agree? Tell us in the comments below what you think of Jason Momoa’s scar.
