The tragic love story that marked the life of Keanu Reeves forever
While "The Matrix" was a hit, the actor lost his daughter and his girlfriend, Jennifer Syme.
Keanu Reeves couldn't have a more successful professional career. After being part of films like "Maximum speed" (1994), "The devil's advocate" (1997) and the "Matrix" trilogy (1999/2003), he is still just as valid today thanks to his interpretation of "John Wick ”.
But behind this low profile actor admired for his talent and simplicity, there is a man who experienced the worst tragedy. Little is known about his personal life, except for a series of terrible events that occurred quite some time ago, just when the world was ready to meet "Neo".
In 1998, Keanu Reeves attended a party where he met Jennifer Syme, a 26-year-old assistant to director David Lynch. They fell in love and soon after she became pregnant with a girl they would call Ava. But soon the first blow would come: in December 1999, at eight months of gestation, the baby was stillborn.
This tragedy plunged Jennifer Syme into a deep depression and after a few weeks the couple separated, although they remained good friends.
A year and a half later, the young woman died in a traffic accident, crashing into several parked vehicles. She had left a Marilyn Manson party with a designated driver, but for unknown reasons, she decided to return on her own. She was 29 years old.
Syme's mother later accused Manson of supplying her with substances that contributed to her daughter's death, something the singer repeatedly denied.
In 2006, Keanu Reeves referred to these tragic events that marked his life: "Grief changes form, but it never ends," he told Parade magazine. And he added: “People have the misconception that you can deal with this, but they are wrong. When the people you love are not around, you are alone.
The protagonist of "John Wick" had already suffered the loss of his best friend, actor River Phoenix, in 1993. In addition, after the success of "Matrix", his sister Kim was diagnosed with leukemia, a disease that he had already overcome when he was little girl. Kim managed to recover and since then her brother collaborates with institutions that fight against cancer.
The actor defines himself as a lonely man and since Syme's death, no partner has been known to him.
