The actor starred in one of the most iconic scenes of all the Spider-Man film sagas with Kirsten Dunst, but that romantic kiss was real torture.
Twenty years ago, the first Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire was released, and it's fair to say that none of the subsequent remakes has managed to top the iconic kiss he starred in with Kirsten Dunst while hanging upside down.
That scene is part of the history of superhero movies for its originality, but not many know that it was very complicated to shoot on a technical level. As usual in these cases, appearances were deceiving and the interpreter recognized that kissing his co-star had been much harder than it seemed at first glance.
The main problem was that the kiss took place in the rain, to make it even more romantic, and he almost drowned.
"The water kept going up my nose...and when Kirsten lifted up part of my mask, it blocked the air, so I couldn't breathe. And then she kisses me, it blocked that airway too, so basically no I had no way to breathe," Tobey explained to The Hollywood Reporter portal. "It was very difficult. It was quite a challenge. Every time they yelled 'cut', I gasped because I was short of breath. It was torture. It makes you realize how important oxygen is."
