Melania Trump and her son Barron move into the White House

The American presidential family is finally under one roof: the White House.

After nearly five months of living apart, Melania, the wife of President Donald Trump, announced Sunday that she and their son would finally move into the executive mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Melania and Barron, 11, broke with tradition by staying in Trump Tower in New York since Trump took office so the boy could finish school. Meanwhile, the president moved to Washington.

“Looking forward to the memories we will have in our new house! #MovingDay,” the first lady wrote on Twitter after she and Barron arrived at the White House with Trump. The message included a photograph of the Washington Monument, which appears to have been taken from the Red Room of the White House.

The president spent the weekend at his private golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and said repeatedly that his wife and son would move into the White House after the school year. Trump will turn 71 on Wednesday.

Mrs. Trump said last month that Barron will attend a private school in Maryland in the fall. Her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said on Twitter: “It's official! @FLOTUS & Barron have already moved to DC #Welcome."

Barron will enter the sixth grade at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland.

Melania Trump was largely out of the public eye during her husband's presidential campaign and she was an absentee first lady at the start of the administration, staying in New York and focusing on Barron. She, but little by little, has raised her profile in the White House, even accompanying Trump when foreign leaders visit and during the president's first trip outside the country.
