The funeral of Elizabeth II was held on Monday, September 19, in Westminster Abbey.
The British royal family was reunited in full on Monday, September 19, for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died “peacefully” on September 8 at her residence in Balmoral, Scotland. The elders of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were also present to pay a courageous last respects. If it was time for meditation, the placement of members of the royal family caused confusion.
A QUESTIONED PLACEMENT
Many have indeed wondered why Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were placed second. Some have seen in this placement a way of "punishing" Prince William's brother following his departure from the royal family. According to the "Daily Mail", a source at Buckingham Palace therefore claimed that apart from Prince William, who is now first in line to the throne, the other grandchildren had been installed by " approximate order of age", while taking care not to divide the families.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were therefore seated next to Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The latter had taken their place alongside Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn, the children of the Earl and Countess of Wessex. If he was not in the first row, the Duke of Sussex was however placed just behind his father King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. To their left, Princess Anne and her husband Timothy Laurence sat with Prince Andrew, as well as Prince Edward and his wife Sophie of Wessex.
Prince William was seated in the front row on the other side, with his wife Kate Middleton and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Princess Anne's two children, Peter Philips and Zara Tindall were also near them. If some were offended by this placement, during the ceremony at Saint George's Chapel in Windsor, Harry and Meghan were, this time, seated in the front row. During this funeral service, the husband of Meghan Markle also shared a tender moment with his niece, Princess Charlotte.
