The Australian actress said her family has ‘no connection’ to the industry
Margot Robbie has revealed that her family wanted her to quit acting to get a “real job”.
The 27-year-old, who is tipped for an Oscar nomination for her role in I, Tonya, said that her family couldn’t take her career seriously at first as none of them worked in the entertainment industry.
She told Vogue: “My family has no connection to the entertainment industry whatsoever, so when I started acting, everyone was like, 'That's fun, but when are you going to actually get a real job?.
She added: “And that went on for years.”
Robbie, who had her first role on Australian soap, Neighbours, landed her breakthrough role in Wolf of Wall Street alongside Hollywood sensation Leonardo DiCaprio.
Despite her success in recent years, with roles including Suicide Squad, The Legend of Tarzan and Focus, she confessed that her family make sure she’s always grounded.
The Australian actress said: “They're impressed for five seconds, and then they're (like) 'So anyway, the dog threw up today.'”
Nicole Kidman, posing alongside Robbie for Vogue, admitted that she still feels “fortunate” when she gets cast.
The 50-year-old actress, who has three Golden Globes to her name, also still suffers from terrible nerves.
“I still feel like I'm the kid at drama school hoping to get a role. I always feel like I'm so fortunate and lucky to have the job,” she said.
“Part of my job now is to give back and help create opportunities for the next generation – particularly with female directors, because it is so imbalanced.”
