N-de scenes ‘scary and intimidating’, admits Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet has revealed that intim-cy coordinators are now an essential part of her job, following her role in the critically acclaimed series Mare of  East town.

The Oscar-winning actress explained that coordinators act as a helpful bridge between male directors and female actors during intim-te scenes, and their presence makes choreographing s-x scenes less daunting for women.

The British actress discussed the embarrassment that young actors face when they have to take part in s-x scenes, saying: ‘It’s quite scary and intimidating to be a young person and to find it uncomfortable to even say certain words, be they intim-te or of a s-xual nature.

‘Just making those words come out of your mouth when you’re young can be really awkward.’ Winslet, talking to BBC Radio 4, also acknowledged the progression the film industry is making when it comes to ensuring actors, and women in particular, feel safer and more at ease on camera by employing intim-cy coordinators.

The 45-year-old said: ‘I think that women in general, actresses in general, are celebrating one another very freely now in ways that feel really good and really grounding and positive.

‘That didn’t really exist quite as much when I was younger, and feeling that and hearing that - that’s a big shift.’
