A photographer and paparazzi took legal action against the singer for the use of an image.
Dua Lipa, without a doubt, has become one of the most famous pop icons in recent years, due to the powerful stamp that she gave to her songs and musical projects. Little by little she managed to capture the attention of her faithful followers, leading them to transport themselves in different times and sounds.
Recently, the famous British celebrity, who will be presented in Bogotá next September, captured the eyes of several international media after being sued by a paparazzi, who attacked her for a copyright issue in a photograph that took on the street. The photographer, identified as Robert Barbera, went to legal proceedings for content that he used on social networks.
The paparazzi sued the singer and interpreter of "Break my heart" for having uploaded to her official Instagram account an image that he took in July 2018 while she was in public. The man filed a series of court documents in the United States District Court, exactly in California.
According to the record, Barbera indicates that the pop star made a mistake regarding copyright issues for making use of that photo he captured without permission. The photographer alleged such content, which exposes Dua Lipa in a black sweater with the word "Heroes" printed on it, in capital letters, while she was walking down the street.
Robert Barbera assured that the young British woman has benefited financially from the publication of her photos, emphasizing that she uses her social networks to market and promote her music and her brands.
The Billboard portal shared this legal issue that the celebrity is going through, showing part of the lawsuit written by the lawyer Craig Sander.
"Without Plaintiff's permission or authorization, Defendant voluntarily selected, copied, stored, and displayed each of Plaintiff's copyrighted photographs," the document reads.
“According to information and belief, the violations increased traffic to the account, and in turn, caused Defendant to realize an increase in revenue generated through Defendant's promotional events and the sale of the musical works. of the defendant,” added the lawyer in the lawsuit.
The photographer pointed out that the "potential market" that those photos had was affected and ended up harming the process of these in commercial matters. Therefore, Robert Barbera made a request for compensation for damages, in addition to the return of all the benefits that Dua Lipa could acquire for these photos on her social networks.
However, the professional indicated and requested that the British celebrity not be able to use his photographs in the future in any way.
It is important to note that Barbera affirms that in 2019, when he discovered that the interpreter of 'Physical' had uploaded her photos to social networks, he contacted her work team outside the legal instances, but never received a response. .
Therefore, he made the decision to send a draft of the lawsuit that he would file against the young woman and that's when the images of her disappeared from her official Instagram account.
Dua Lipa, who experienced a love breakup in 2021, had already been sued for this same situation at the beginning of the year, since the company Integral Images took legal action for the improper use of content that belonged to them.
Robert Barbera has already sued other artists for copyright
The paparazzi is not the first time that he uses this legal resource to fight for the copyright of her photos, since in 2019 he denounced the famous Ariana Grande for publishing one of her photos on social networks.
Similarly, in 2020 he sued her again for the issue, but the cases were dismissed and left aside.
Justin Bieber was also a victim of this legal problem, since in October 2019 he received the photographer's lawsuit. Unlike Grande, the singer arranged the issue with the professional out of court and the mess was settled by the images.
