Queen Camilla ‘tried hard’ to please Meghan Markle in “awful royal trials”

Camilla reportedly tried to guide Meghan through complicated protocols when she joined the Royal Family, claims royal author Angela Levin

The Queen Consort is said to have made a particular effort to support both Meghan Markle and Kate, Princess of Wales when they married into the Royal Family. During her relationship with Prince Charles, Camilla reportedly experienced a “terrible time” when trying to get to grips with royal protocol and the fresh expectations attached to her royal position. Despite the Queen Consort’s efforts, royal expert Angela Levin has suggested the Duchess of Sussex “wasn’t interested” in learning the expectations of the Royal Family during her time as a working member.

Speaking on The Mail’s Palace Confidential, Ms Levin said: “She tried very hard with Meghan, to please her - she had done this with Katherine too.

“Because she had such a terrible time when she joined the Royal Family, she tried to tell them where the holes could be and the protocols that sound ridiculous but they need to follow.

“[It was] to give them an understanding of a very different life.

“Katherine was very grateful and Meghan wasn’t interested really.”

Meghan Markle officially became a member of the British Royal Family following her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.

Less than two years later, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would step back as senior royals and shortly thereafter relocated to live in America.

Since the announcement, the couple have been at the centre of an apparent feud with the Royal Family following a series of controversial media exchanges in which the pair alleged they were “let down” by the firm.

The couple have since continued to fuel tensions by threatening to release further revelations about their stint at the forefront of royal life. Meghan told New York magazine The Cut, she had never signed anything that prevented her revealing her “whole experience” in the Royal Family.

Angela Levin, who has written the book Camilla: from outcast to future Queen Consort, has suggested Camilla could be pivotal in welcoming Prince Harry and Meghan back into the royal household.

The royal author claimed: “[Camilla] understands, as a parent, that you can love your child but really not like what they are doing.”

It had previously been suggested that the Duke and Duchess were set to become further distanced from the Royal Family following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Russell Myers, royal editor for The Mirror reported: “[Prince Harry] has lost his grandmother, potentially his only ally in this family.”

Prince Harry and Meghan are tipped to make a return as working members as The Sun reported the couple are set to embark on a “reconciliation year”.

An unspecified source has declared the Duke and Duchess intend to make amends with their royal relatives in 2023, following the release of Prince Harry’s memoir and their Netflix docu-series.

The pair are reportedly already taking steps to reduce tensions as royal commentator Josh Rom reported Prince Harry was “scrambling” to edit out potentially controversial passages of his memoir.

Mr Rom said: “He fears that he might come across as insensitive and he fears that he might receive intense backlash from the publication of the book.”
