Taylor Swift reveals she ignores 'weird rumours' about her relationship with boyfriend Joe Alwyn

'We have to protect the real stuff': Taylor Swift reveals she ignores 'weird rumours' about her relationship with boyfriend Joe Alwyn in rare remark

Taylor Swift has revealed she ignores 'weird rumours' about her relationship with boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who she rarely speaks about.

The singer, 32, whose first track on her upcoming album Midnights will be called Lavender Haze, explained she first heard the phrase while watching AMC's Mad Men and loved its 'really beautiful' meaning.

She explained in a reel posted to Instagram on Thursday: 'I happened upon the phrase Lavender Haze when I was watching Mad Men, and I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool.

'If you were in the lavender haze, then that meant that you were in that all-encompassing love glow, and I thought that was really beautiful.'

Taylor then got more specific and suggested the song is inspired by her six-year-long relationship with the 31-year-old and how they 'dodge' speculation about their romance in order to 'protect the real stuff'.

She added: 'I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just like 'public figures,' because we live in the era of social media. And if the world finds out that you're in love with somebody, they're gonna weigh in on it.

'Like my relationship for six years, we've had to dodge weird rumours, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it.

'And so this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.'

In her caption, the Grammy winner wrote: 'Tonight we mayhem til the morning! AND release vinyls with pics I signed in them on my site! Gonna be a wild ride.'

Taylor's Instagram post came shortly after the latest installment of her TikTok series Midnights Mayhem with Me, in which the Bad Blood hitmaker reveals the names of the songs that will feature on her new album.

Spinning a bingo cage of numbered balls, Taylor said in the clip: 'The tension is palpable.'

After the number one popped out, she announced: 'Track one is called Lavender Haze.'

Other tracks she has revealed thus far are Midnight Rain, Question... ?), Vigilante S**t), Mastermind, Maroon and Anti-Hero.

Taylor previously described the album as a collection of songs based on 13 sleepless nights over the last few years, during which she got up to jot down lyrics.

Announcing the new project, she wrote in a statement posted online: 'This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face.

'For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves.'

There are 13 tracks for each sleepless night, though a Target-exclusive edition comes with three bonus tracks.

It was also revealed last week that Taylor will be embarking on a, 'massive stadium tour' in 2023 in support of the new album.

She had previously headlined five tours, with her last being the Reputation World Tour in 2018 that grossed nearly $350 million dollars, breaking the record for the highest-grossing tour of all time.
