The 17-year-old artist Billie Eilish is being strongly criticized for having admitted in an interview that she does not know the group Van Halen. What need is there to highlight the generation gap?
It is evident that the artists that a teenage girl knows will not be the same ones that the older generations know. In the same way that the show's host asked Billie if she knew Van Halen, I could ask my dad if she knows Bad Gyal or Tyler, the Creator.
Each generation has its artists and it is over the years that our musical knowledge grows and expands. The anger that many are projecting on this girl is totally unnecessary. I, at 17, didn't know Van Halen either.
