Actor George Clooney married his girlfriend Amal Alamuddin in a private ceremony in Venice on Saturday. Celebrities, paparazzi and world media had gathered in the Italian city for the ceremony of the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood.
The actor and his wife, lawyer Amal Alamuddin, were photographed this Friday sailing through the sunny canals of Venice before the big day. Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, were riding in a boat appropriately named Amore, or Amor, in full view of tourists riding in gondolas.
The first wedding guests began to arrive on Friday and were also captured by photographers, including actor Matt Damon; Vogue editor Anna Wintour; U2 singer Bono and supermodel Cindy Crawford.
The actor revealed his engagement this month at a charity event in Tuscany, Italy. According to People magazine, Clooney was receiving recognition for his philanthropic work and during his acceptance speech he said: “I met my lovely fiancĂ©e here in Italy, who I am getting married to in a few weeks, in Venice. ”.
The reception was at the Aman Canal Grande hotel, a luxurious place where the guests arrived by water taxi. Many paparazzi and photographers gathered outside the hotel, where Clooney's fiancee was reportedly staying on Saturday.
The actor's wedding comes shortly after the long-awaited marriage of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who were married last month.
