The Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice star revealed it was a screen test for James Bond that scuppered his back up plan
We may never have seen Henry Cavill in a SUPER-TIGHT costume if his acting career flopped.
Thank God for Superman .
The British hunk revealed that his back-up plan was to be a soldier in the British Armed Forces if he didn't make it as a movie star.
"Thankfully at this stage I’ve got my foot in the door enough that if someone tried to slam it shut, I could probably squeeze a little bit and keep the door open," he told Men's Fitness magazine.
"As far as a full back-up plan, it was the British Armed Forces. But being 33 years old I think I’m too old to join now."
But it's actually James Bond we have to thank for Henry landing on his feet instead of giving it all up to join the army.
He shared: "There were plenty of times I thought it wouldn't happen. At one stage I was like, 'If this next movie doesn't do well then I'm out, I'm going to join the Armed Forces'.
"Then I got the screen test for Bond and thought, my name is out there now, so maybe I should stick around. And I did."
And sharing his reasons behind why he acts, Henry revealed "the money is fantastic".
He said: "I'm slightly wary of saying this, because it can be frowned upon, certainly by members of my community and people outside my community ... but I'm not just doing this for the art. The money's fantastic and that's something which I deem - and again, it is frowned upon - very important.
"You've got to enjoy life! I mean, you've got to. When I'm making money I'm spending it on nice stuff, whether that be lavish holidays for me and my friends or just seeing something and going in a shop and saying, 'Yeah, I want that for the house,' and buying it.
"Spending money on my friends, buying dinner for everyone, drinks for everyone, it's a nice place to be, and I like people to feel cared for."
