The actress, it girl and businesswoman has spoken openly about the feminist movement against abuse, the controversial producer and what it means for a woman to grow up in the world of Hollywood.
As a star, mother, and founder of a successful startup, she, she has always been a staunch advocate for women's equality. In a recent statement to CNN, she spoke about the controversial #MeToo movement, saying how necessary it is and lamenting that it hasn't happened a long time ago. "About time," she said. "I think things have been out of balance for too long."
In case anyone is clueless, the #MeToo movement was born in response to the Harvey Weinstein abuse scandal, a rallying cry for women around the world who have suffered s-xual harassment or assault. Because Weinstein's company produced 'Awake' in 2005, a film in which Alba participated, she was asked about Harvey's behavior during filming: "I was never alone with him on any job. I always met in groups of people, at premieres and things like that, so I was never in a one-on-one situation."
But the 37-year-old actress has confessed that, unfortunately, she has suffered s-xual harassment in her career. "Of course. All the time on the road," she said. "I was a young actress growing up in the business, so you end up accepting that that's the way you're going to be treated. I've been doing this since I was 12. Imagine what that's like." But Alba prefers to take the positive side and pass on to her daughters some of the things she has learned in Hollywood: "I have been in many different situations and that is why it is important for me to talk to them about them, that they know that they have control over their body and about the situations in which they want to put themselves".
