If we learned (or thought we learned) anything from John Wick, it's that Keanu Reeves wasn't a guy you'd flinch at. Or the one you would kill the dog. Or the one you'd make a dismissive comment about his suit, because no one wears a suit as well as Keanu. And that's why discovering things from a past in which he was bossed around by Hollywood is such a huge disappointment for everyone.
In a profile by GQ Magazine, the actor has revealed some very juicy details from his early career, when the monumental success of Speed ended up opening the doors of the industry for him. Jan De Bont's film had made so much money that executives at 20th Century Fox were obsessed with making a sequel, but Keanu hadn't quite seen it and decided instead to go to Winnipeg to play Hamlet in a local performance. Speed 2 would go ahead with Sandra Bullock, but Fox would not forget the rudeness of the interpreter.
Thus, and although in the following years Keanu Reeves starred in a box office phenomenon such as the Matrix trilogy, the studio refused to work with him again, locking him in the dreaded movie jail and not letting him out until 11 years later. In 2008 our Keanu returned to Fox to star in Ultimatum on Earth, but his relationship with the public was no longer the same and he decided since then to dedicate himself to indie cinema.
