Kristen Stewart admits that she seemed like 'an a-s hole' during the beginning of her career

She rose to super stardom at just 17-years-old via Twilight.

And Kristen Stewart says she understands why she came off as prickly during her rise to fame, opening up for an intimate profile for Vanity Fair's September issue.

Talking about her early days, she said: 'I think I’ve grown out of this, but I used to be really frustrated that because I didn’t leap willingly into being at the center of a certain amount of attention, that it seemed like I was an a-s hole.'

'I am in no way rebellious. I am in no way contrarian. I just want people to like me,' she continued.

The actress/director said that working with indie directors on edgy projects gave her the chance to evolve.

'It gave me a chance to not weigh something down,' she said about her work with directors like Certain Women's Kelly Reichardt and Personal Shopper's Olivier Assayas.

'It was so much bigger than me. My baggage was so minuscule in comparison to what [Reichardt’s and Assayas’s] story lines are, as filmmakers. I was finally given a chance to be looked at, not as this thing in this celebrity-obsessed culture that was like, "Oh, that’s the girl from Twilight."'

In the interview Kristen also offered a tidbit about her relationships, admitting she only dates people who 'complement' her.

The 29-year-old actress is currently dating Stella Maxwell and has now said she only embarks on a relationship with those who bring out her good sides, and who work as the perfect addition to her life.

She told the magazine: 'I only date people who complement me.'

Although she might not be a rebel, the Charlie's Angel actress does have something extraordinary about her, as she says she often talks to ghosts, especially if she's in a 'weird small town'.

'I talk to [ghosts]. If I'm in a weird, small town, making a movie, and I'm in a strange apartment, I will literally be like, "No, please, I cannot deal. Anyone else, but it cannot be me."

'Who knows what ghosts are, but there is an energy that I'm really sensitive to. Not just with ghosts, but with people. People stain rooms all the time.'

Kristen has been dating Stella on and off for more than three years. The pair previously dated from 2016 until their split in fall 2018 but have recently rekindled their romance.
