The actor credits his friendship with his wife for their long-term success.
Ryan Reynolds says there’s no big secret behind the success of his and Blake Lively’s marriage, just a really solid foundation of friendship.
The actor revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on Monday that when it comes to his relationship with his wife, “We don’t take each other too seriously, but we’re also friends.” He continued, “Falling in love is great, but do you like each other? That’s kinda the question you gotta ask yourself, you know, going into it. We’ve always liked each other. We grow together. We learn from each other. So yeah, I’m lucky to have a buddy in that.”
The pair first met in 2011 while filming Green Lantern, marrying one year later on a plantation in South Carolina. They’re now also parents to three daughters—six-year-old James, five-year-old Inez, and two-year-old Betty. They celebrated their 10-year anniversary as a couple in August with Lively sharing a photo of Boston’s O Ya restaurant where they went on their first date on her Instagram Stories, writing, “If it weren’t for this place. We wouldn’t be together. No joke. No restaurant means more to us.”
Reynolds also recently opened up about their third child and his relief at getting to raise all girls. “I would not have it any other way,” he told Access Hollywood on Monday. “When we had our youngest, I was quietly terrified it was gonna be a boy because I didn’t know, we didn’t know. I didn’t know anything but girls. I grew up with boys and I was constantly being thrown through walls when there was a perfectly good door 5 feet away.”
