Although they played sisters Sansa Stark and Arya Stark on “Game of Thrones,” Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams are best friends in real life. They’re so close that, in the past, it’s even led to some reports that the pair was dating.
During a recent interview with Conan O’Brien, Turner said that she and Williams were fully aware that people thought they might be a couple so they decided to play into the speculation while filming “Game of Thrones.”
“So on the set, [me and Williams] would do the scene and then we would kind of try and just kiss each other in the middle of the scene and then see if anyone would react,” she said.
But she said on the set of 'Game of Thrones,' it takes a lot to raise anyone's eyebrows
The two are Stark sisters on the show and though it seems strange to see on-screen siblings kiss, incest has appeared on "GOT" a number of times. Some examples include the romance between twins Jaime and Cersei Lannister and the complicated relationship between Daenerys Targaryen and her nephew, Jon Snow.
"It's 'Game of Thrones,' so incest is so normal that they were just like ... 'That's fine,'" she told Conan. "It was probably the most tame thing that happened on the show, actually."
When Conan asked the actress if she wanted people believe she and Williams were a couple, she responded, "You know, sometimes you just want to make out with your best friend."
Whether they're doing a feature for Rolling Stone magazine or joking on the red carpet, Turner and Williams have been very public about their friendship. In the past, speaking to INSIDER, Turner even called Williams her "soul mate."
The pair also has matching tattoos in their inner arms that stand for August 7, 2009, the date both actresses found out they were cast on "GOT."
