'It was the most terrifying but exhilarating thing I’ve ever done': Emma Corrin says they didn't want the intim-te scenes in Lady Chatterley's Lover to be 'gratuitous' and details filming that n-ked rain scene
Emma Corrin has detailed their process of filming notoriously racy Netflix film, Lady Chatterley's Lover alongside Jack O’Connell.
The Crown star, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, said that both actors wants to make sure the intim-te scenes were not 'gratuitous'.
Speaking to actor Paul Mescal for Interview, they said: 'We had two weeks to basically chart the emotional journey for s-x scenes, because we didn’t want any of them to be gratuitous.'
They further discussed the iconic n-ked dancing in the rain scene, which Emma said was shot in the first week of filming.
They described it as, 'the most terrifying but exhilarating thing I’ve ever done in my life.'
They went on: 'There’s a lot of stuff that can be cushioned with the magic of filmmaking, but in that scene we were literally just running around n-ked in the rain.
Emma revealed they filmed it 'all day' adding: 'The novelty really wore off by hour 11. It got really cold.'
They eponymous leading lady, Lady Constance 'Connie'Chatterley in the film while Jack portrayed Oliver Mellors.
Previously Emma described the s-x scenes in the film as 'really beautiful' as they touched on the barrier-breaking nature of the flick, which shows a woman in control of her s-xuality.
They also touched on the empowering nature of the film - explaining that it shows 'it's okay for women to want pleasure'.
The film is based on the 1928 novel by English author D. H. Lawrence, and is notorious for its explicit descriptions of s-x, use of four-letter words, and depiction of a relationship between an upper-class woman and a working-class man.
The uncensored version was infamously banned in the UK at the time for it's racy nature.
Speaking to People on the power the film gives to women, they explained: 'A journey that I think a lot of women go on is finding that power in your s-xuality, and also knowing that it's okay to want pleasure and to strive for pleasure.
'And for that to be a really powerful and beautiful thing and not something that you need to not acknowledge at all, or feel bad about, or shame over.'
Emma continued that the s-x scenes are 'a really beautiful thing' and give power to the actors and audience.
'I really loved the centring of female pleasure and s-x in the story,' they said to the The Times on the intim-te scenes.
The film features full frontal n-dity from both leading actors, which Jack adds: 'Was definitely a campaign towards some form of equality'.
Last week, Emma took to Instagram to give fans a glimpse of the making of the Netflix film - posting a fun behind-the-scenes snap in a hairnet and robe on set.
And jesting on the racy nature of the film, captioning a snap: 'Any children conceived after the watching of this film must be called Emma.'
