Actress cut her hair for new role in the adaptation of the Annie Weatherwax adaptation
We're used to seeing Katie Holmes looking polished and stylish on the red carpet - but the actress has left the Hollywood glamour behind in new movie All We Had and was papped looking bedraggled on the set of the New York film this week.
Katie - who is starring in and directing the film - showed off her gappy grin on the set of the movie and while it might not be the most glamorous role, she's clearly having fun.
The star was photographed giggling with her co-star, 17 year-old actress Stefania Owen - who is playing her daughter in the film - in New York and looked like she was throwing herself into the movie adaption.
Wearing flared jeans, a plaid shirt and minimal make-up the brunette was make-up free as she showed off her new shoulder-length brown locks, which she had cut for the role.
Based on the novel by Annie Weatherwax, All We Had is set in the wake of the 2008 financial collapse and follows single mum Rita Carmichael as she starts a new life in a small Ohio town.
A single-mum starting her life over isn't exactly a stretch for the 36 year-old actress, who shares custody of her own nine year-old daughter Suri with Tom Cruise, though we doubt she ever needed to wait tables in the wake of her split, like her character Rita.
Katie became the latest Hollywood star to crossover from movies to TV after joining the cast of Ray Donavon.
The star joined the cast for the third season playing millionaire character Paige Finney, with her character getting mixed reviews from viewers. Talking about her character during an appearance on Good Morning America in July, the actress admitted Paige was a complex role.
“Paige is very complicated and you haven’t seen it yet, but she’s very strong and very tough but she’s also very vulnerable. So the braces to us was a metaphor,” she said.
