The invisible lingerie that has conquered Rihanna

Do celebrities pose on the red carpet without underwear? Is there really nothing under such transparency? We discover the secret of the 'celebrities' and the best weapon of the models on the catwalk

The Oscars after party has made it clear that the fashion for the n-ked dress did not end last year. Irina Shayk, Rita Ora and Gigi Hadid have opted for transparent maxi dresses in which lingerie has no place. Atelier Versace and Donna Karan are willing to make celebrities walk down the red carpet practically n-ked, but there is a lingerie firm that helps manage modesty in those moments. It's called Commando and it's the brand that helped Rihanna not show her private parts at the CFDA with her Adam Selman dress. None of the media spoke of her lingerie: everyone blushed when they said that the singer had dared to go n-ked to the gala. Minipoint, then, for Commando. “When I have to bet on n-de thongs, I always choose Commando's. They are not visible, even when the dress is completely transparent and you can see everything," says Mel Ottenberg, the singer's stylist.

Designers also don't want their models making headlines for showing their secrets on the runway. To give prominence to their designs (and not to the vision of parts relegated to the intim-te sphere), they bet on Commando. Jason Wu, Rodarte or Monique Lhuillier are some of the brands that bet on the lingerie created by Kerry O'Brien in their spring-summer 2015 collections. The secret of their designs lies in the absence of seams thanks to a New York manufacturer who has the formula to mix elastic nylon with lycra.

This is how they achieve that the brand's panties and thongs mold to the body without the need for unsightly elastic bands. But the goal of this invisible lingerie is not just to ensure your invisibility. It also prevents what the English call VPLs from being appreciated, which means that lingerie is noticed because of very low back necklines or too fine fabrics, and includes n-de nip*ple shields like the ones that Lena Dunham showed on her Instagram as her allies for the Golden Globes.

On Twitter, Emma Watson has not hesitated to confess that she uses Commando thongs whenever she needs to. On the red carpet at the premiere of Noah, the actress wore an Erdem dress with her secret lingerie, which is sold in more than 1,000 stores across America, including Neiman Marcus. Thanks to her n-de underwear, Emma Stone didn't put on a show on the Oscars red carpet when the slit in her Elie Saab dress got too high. Going commando isn't safe on the red carpet, but going Commando, apparently, is.
