Courtney Love lashes out at Brad Pitt for firing him from Fight Club for this powerful reason
Courtney Love claims that Brad Pitt no longer wanted her in the 1999 movie
Fight Club, after she turned down the idea of her playing her husband Kurt
Cobain in a biopic. The famous 58-year-old let her complaints against the
59-year-old actor flow in a new chapter of Marc Maron's WTF podcast, where
she shared that she was going to give life to Marla Singer, who ended up
being played by Helena Bonham Sump.
However, after turning down Pitt to bring her late husband to life in a
film, Love received a call from Fight Club director David Fincher, who
reportedly fired her from the project. "She fired me because I didn't let
Brad play Kurt."
But a source close to the film commented: "Almost twenty-five years ago,
Courtney Love auditioned for a role in Fight Club, a role she was never
offered at any time. You can't get fired for a job you didn't get." It is
well known that the roles are not decided by other actors but by the
director.'
She later recalled the moment she spoke to director Gus Van Sant, who
pitched her the idea for Brad to play the singer, who sadly committed
suicide at the age of 27 in 1994.
"We had done all these table readings, I had gone to work privately with
David, and I get this phone call and it's from Gus Van Sant, and Gus is
having lunch with Brad Pitt... He says, 'Brad really wants to do a movie.
about music".
It was like the mouth of hell dropped open, oh my god, "We want to do it
with Kurt!" And 22 years later I'm still kicking myself for not having the
shark instinct to say, "Sure," and fuck them later. I went nuclear. "I don't
do Faust, who the hell do you think you are?"
