JLo also praised Madonna during an interview stating that she is a huge fan of the star and she always has been.
Jennifer Lopez revealed that she and Britney Spears were supposed to be the one to kiss Madonna at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, but the production asked Christina Aguilera to fill in for her after the 'Waiting for Tonight' singer ' could not attend the awards ceremony.
“Yes, that was really true. He was filming a movie in Canada and we had met, me, Madonna and Britney Spears, to do it at his house. And then I just couldn't get out of the movie," Lopez, 53, told E! News in an interview. “So we couldn't do it. Then they got Christina Aguilera to do it. But yeah, we talked about it."
JLo also praised Madonna during the interview, stating that she was a "huge fan" of the star and "always has been."
The 2003 performance, during which Spears emerged from a wedding cake dressed as a bride and sang "Like a Virgin," paid homage to Madonna's 1984 act, where she did the same. Both Aguilera and Madonna later joined the pop star onstage and kissed.
However, while Britney and Christian kissed Madonna, only Spears's kiss was shown on the screen, then the cameras caught the reaction of her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.
“It was weird,” Aguilera told Andy Cohen during a 2018 Sirius XM radio interview. “They cut to get Justin's reaction. It was a low blow. I saw the paper the next day and I was like, 'Oh, well, I guess I'm out of that one.'”
The Grammy winner added that even though her kiss didn't make headlines, she doesn't hold a grudge about how the night turned out. "I mean everything happened so fast back then and everything was a whirlwind," she said. “But I had my own performance that night. It was 'Fighter' and he was with Dave Navarro. It was a spectacular performance. So I was fine with that."
Last June, Madonna and Spears reenacted the kiss during the 'Stronger' singer and Sam Asghari's wedding reception in California. Spears wore a low-cut red Versace dress and posted the photo of them kissing on her Instagram profile.
