Anne Heche: confirm the death of the 53-year-old actress a week after
suffering a serious car accident One of the sons of the American actress
Anne Heche confirmed on Friday the death of the 53-year-old interpreter
after the serious accident she suffered on August 5, when her car crashed
into a house in Los Angeles and was involved on fire.
"My brother Atlas and I lost our mother. After six days of almost incredible
emotional changes, I am left with deep sadness and speechlessness," his son
Homer said in a statement sent to the Los Angeles Times on August 13. "I
hope my mom is free of pain and begins to explore what I want to imagine as
her eternal freedom," the note said.
"Over these six days thousands of friends, family and fans have let me know
they loved her. I'm grateful for their love, as well as the support of my
dad, Coley, and stepmom Alexi, who continue to be my rock in these moments.
Rest in peace mom. Love you, Homer."
The actress was declared brain dead on the night of Thursday through Friday,
which in California is considered death from a legal standpoint.
The newspaper reported that doctors at the Grossman Burn Center at West
Hills Hospital, where the actress was admitted, kept her on "life support"
to facilitate organ donation, as she wished.
The actress was finally disconnected this Sunday.
Already on Thursday night, Heche's family said that she suffered "serious
anoxic brain injury", which occurs when her brain is deprived of oxygen.
The actress starred in movies like Donnie Brasco, "Cedar Rapids Convention,"
Volcano, "Six Days and Seven Nights," and the remake of the 1998 classic
Psycho.
Her name began to sound strongly in the world of entertainment when she was
nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in the series Another World
("Another World") between 1987 and 1991.
Her other television work includes appearances on Ally McBeal, Chicago P.D.
and Dancing with the Stars.
"A sad day"
In the late 1990s, the actress made headlines for her love affair with
television host Ellen DeGeneres, at a time when gay relationships were rarely
publicized in Hollywood.
And this Friday DeGeneres shared her sadness at the news of her in a Twitter
post. "This is a sad day. Sending all my love to Anne's children, her family
and her friends," she wrote.
Heche and DeGeneres received a lot of press attention when they went to the
premiere of the movie Volcano together in 1997. A year later, the actress
appeared in an episode of Ellen, her couple's comedy.
The actress later confessed that having made her love for another woman public
cost her jobs in the entertainment industry in those years.
"It wasn't a long love relationship, (but) it was a moment in my life when I
was given the glory of being able to stand up for what I believe in and have
believed since I was a child," she said in an interview.
The accident
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the
actress's car was engulfed in flames after crashing into a
house, rendering it "uninhabitable." The only inhabitant of the property was
unharmed.
Police said last Friday that preliminary blood tests had revealed the presence
of drugs in her system, but additional tests were needed to rule out any
substances administered at the hospital.
The Los Angeles Police Department informed the PA news agency that the
incident was being investigated as a traffic collision offense for driving
under the influence of some substance.
