Johnny Depp exaggerates his love of tobacco in a new interview, saying, "I smoke a thousand cigarettes a day."
In addition to dating supermodels, traveling the world, and acting in both blockbuster and art house movies, Johnny Depp is a guy of many hedonistic pleasures.
Nevertheless, the 50-year-old added smokes to that list in a recent interview. Depp playfully exaggerates his nicotine intake in a candid chat with punk rock legend Iggy Pop, declaring that he smokes upwards of a thousand cigarettes a day.
The pair of longtime friends put their conversation on record in the latest issue of Interview magazine, which features Depp on the cover - the first time in two decades.
The movie star assumes two outfits in the magazine spread with a dark suit for the cover image as he incongruously holds a teddy bear.
One inside shot sees him with his coat off as he rolls his sleeves up while staring into the camera with his spectacles clenched in his right hand.
And in another portrait, the star reads a book on Jazz legend Thelonius Monk as he wears black and white wingtips and a 1950s bowling shirt.
The retro outfit is in keeping with some of the actor's less than modern tastes, which were brought to light when Iggy asked Depp how many cigarettes he consumed on a daily basis.
'I'll bet a thousand,' Depp said playfully, adding, 'I'm working my way up to ten thousand.'
Iggy, mildly concerned said: 'Mining that same vein, how does your future look?'
And with a bit of gallows humour, the What's Eating Gilbert Grape star admitted: '[laughing] It's questionable at best.'
Meanwhile, Depp has been wearing his fiancée Amber Heard's engagement ring, according to US Weekly.
A source told the publication that the diamond sparkler he gave Heard, 27, was 'too big for her so he started wearing it.'
The actor showed off the diamond engagement ring that he called a 'chick's ring' on Monday — indirectly confirming his engagement to actress Amber Heard.
Asked whether he was engaged, the Pirates of the Caribbean star replied: 'The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle.'
He laughed as he lifted up his left hand and displayed a single diamond on a band around his ring finger at the Grand Hyatt in Beijing’s Wangfujing district.
