I went to rehab for depression, not drugs: Kirsten Dunst

Actress Kirsten Dunst, star of the "Spider-Man" movie saga, says she entered a rehab clinic this year because she was suffering from depression, not because of an addiction to alcohol or drugs.

In an interview given to E! Online, the 26-year-old actress said she was in Utah's Cirque Lodge Treatment Center - where Lindsay Lohan and Eva Mendes have also been - after months of feeling depressed.

“It took up to six months before I decided to go,” said Dunst, a regular at Los Angeles parties who told an English magazine last year that “the world would be a better place” if everyone smoked marijuana.

“I had problems, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself,” she added in the interview. “I was lucky to have the resources to do it. My friends and family also thought it was a good idea,” she added.

Dunst said that she had decided to tell about her struggles with depression to highlight the problems that so many successful women face, and to put an end to rumors that she had a problem with drugs or alcohol.

“There have been a lot of inaccuracies about what is happening in my life, and it has been very painful for my friends and family,” she said.

“Everybody feels like they have to defend me. They hear the rumors and that puts them on the defensive. Now that I feel stronger, I was ready to say something," explained the actress.

Dunst rose to fame when she was a child, for roles like the one she had in "Interview With the Vampire." She recently was the protagonist of Marie Antoinette, ”by Sofia Coppola.

She is now shooting "All Good Things" with Ryan Gosling in New York.
