Kate Winslet Claims Tom Cruise is angry with Her for Breaking His Underwater Record

Kate Winslet, who is well known for her many acclaimed films such as Titanic and The reader, held her breath underwater for more than seven minutes in Avatar: The Way of Water. This is quite a feat because she also broke Tom Cruise's record.

For the unversed, Tom Cruise held his breath for six minutes back in 2015 while filming Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

Now, Winslet spoke in an interview with USA Today and while there spoke a bit about the upcoming film directed by James Cameron. According to the actress, she learned how to free dive and in the process, she achieved her big success which was remaining underwater for seven minutes and 14 seconds, a minute more than the Top Gun star.

While Kate Winslet admits that she does not know Tom Cruise personally, she also jokes about him being angry for breaking his record.

"Poor Tom," the actress told the outlet. "I mean, I don't know Tom Cruise at all – I've never met him in my life – but I'm sure he's getting very fed up of hearing this story of how I broke his record. I loved it, though. ... I was amazed how good I was at it and how I just kept getting better."

In another interview, but for Total Film, Kate Winslet admitted that she thought she had died when underwater, but when going to the surface, she realized what exactly happened. "I have the video of me surfacing saying, 'Am I dead, have I died?'" Kate Winslet revealed. "And then going, 'What was [my time]?'" she continued. "Straight away I wanted to know my time. And I couldn’t believe it."

Kate Winslet broke her own record despite it was not need

Funnily enough, the Titanic star broke the underwater record, not because it was needed, but because she found the chance to do it and took it.

"Well, I didn't have to hold my breath for over seven minutes," explained Kate Winslet in a recent interview. "It's just that the opportunity to set a record presented itself. I wanted to break my own record, which was already six minutes and 14 seconds. And I was like, 'Come on!' So I smashed my own record by a minute."
