Meghan Markle admits to being ambitious 'I didn't know it was something negative'

The Duchess of Sussex has posted the first episode of her new podcast, Archetypes, on the Spotify platform. Prince Harry's wife, who has not been an effective member of the British royal family since March 2020, invited her friend, tennis player Serena Williams, for this first episode.

In this podcast presentation, the Duchess of Sussex hopes everyone will see her for who she really is, and not through the (misleading) lens of the media.

While the two women opened up about their pregnancy, the two friends also debated the "ambitious" label they both inherited at some point.

Meghan Markle has revealed she "didn't know ambition was a negative word" until she started dating Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle also spoke about the consequences of being an ambitious woman. Speaking to her friend Serena Williams, Meghan Markle explained how meeting her husband Prince Harry affected her understanding of the word 'ambition'.

"I don't remember personally feeling any negative connotation behind the word 'ambitious' until I started dating my current husband," she said.

"And uh, apparently ambition is, uh...a terrible, terrible thing, for a woman who is - according to some."

Prince Harry's wife elaborated: "So since I felt the negativity behind this, it's really hard not to feel it. I can't ignore it either for the millions of girls and women who will become smaller and who will see a negative connotation from now on".

During this episode entitled: "The Misconception of Ambition", Meghan Markle also spoke about motherhood, pregnancy and the negative labels that try to hold women back. She also recalled a traumatic moment experienced during her royal tour of South Africa, when a fire broke out in her son Archie's bedroom.
