Despite her current success and confidence at the age of 56, Moore's upbringing in Hailey, Idaho was far from idyllic, with a mother who was dependent on drugs and unhealthy power dynamics. As a child, she even had to rescue her mother from a potential fatal overdose by scraping pills out of her throat.
Moore grew up quickly, marrying her first husband Freddy Moore at age 16 and discovering her passion for acting. She went on to star in iconic films of the '80s and '90s and later married Bruce Willis, with whom she had three daughters. However, Moore struggled with addiction herself and realized that she needed to break the cycle of abuse for the sake of her children.
Moore took time off from work to focus on being a sober parent and ensuring that her children did not grow up with a tainted perception of love. However, in 2012, she once again struggled with alcohol and substance abuse after splitting from her third husband Ashton Kutcher. Moore realized that sobriety was not just for her children but also for herself and that she didn't want to miss a moment of life, even if that meant experiencing pain.
Today, Moore is setting a positive example for her daughters by living a happy and sober lifestyle, which is a valuable parenting lesson for all. Moore's full interview with Dunham can be found in Harper's Bazaar, and her new memoir, Inside Out, will be released later this month.
