Johnny Depp, who is currently 57 years old, has 37 tattoos adorning his body. His very first tattoo was a Cherokee headdress that he got at the age of 17 to honor his Indian heritage since his great-grandmother was a Cherokee.
One of his tattoos is dedicated to his mother, Betty Sue, with her name inked in 1988 to pay tribute to her. Sadly, Betty passed away on May 20, 2016, in Los Angeles, California, after a long illness.
Other tattoos on his body include a 'suprematism triangle' based on a painting by the famous Russian painter Ilya Chashnik, some doodles of three rectangles, and "Lily-Rose" inked over his heart. Lily-Rose is Depp's daughter with ex-wife Vanessa Paradis, born in 1999.
Speaking about his daughter, Depp once expressed, "When Lily-Rose arrived, you know it was sorta like... boom! You hit the pavement and it's strong beneath you, and suddenly you realize, ‘Ah, that's what it's for. That's why you care about integrity or doing things without compromise. It's for that. It's for her.'"
For his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Depp got a tattoo of his character Captain Jack Sparrow, which he inked in 2003 after finishing the shooting of the first film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
The tattoo on his arm has the bird coming towards him, with his son's name Jack, who was born in 2002, while Captain Jack Sparrow's tattoo has the bird going away from him. He also has a skull and crossbones tattoo on his inner bicep, paying homage to the character.
In 2016, Depp got a tattoo of his then-wife Amber Heard's nickname, "SLIM," across his knuckles. However, after Heard filed for divorce later that year, he modified the tattoo to read "SCUM." In 2018, he modified the tattoo again, this time to read "SCAM."
Depp got "Winona forever" tattooed on his arm after he started dating his Edward Scissorhands co-star, Winona Ryder, in 1990. But, unfortunately, their relationship didn't last, and they broke up after three years of being engaged.
Depp then had the tattoo modified to read "Wino forever," claiming that he was "never really the same" after their split and believed that she had taken a part of his soul with her. However, when Depp and Heard were involved in legal proceedings, Ryder defended her former boyfriend, saying he was never abusive towards her, "He was never that way towards me. Never abusive at all towards me. I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people that he loves."
